This class is for anyone who enjoys both fine chocolate and fine wine. Explore the similarities that wine and chocolate have to offer in the relaxed environment of your own home. You’ll discover how to properly taste chocolate and what to look for when selecting chocolates. Next Four Washington State wines will be paired with a variety of chocolates selected to bring out the natural flavors in both. This private lesson runs about 2 to 2 ½ hours. It is advisable to eat a full meal 1 to 2 hours prior to the start of the class. The time and date of event is to be mutually agreed upon. Cost covers chocolate and wine samples for up to 4 people (ages 21 or older). Additional guests are $55.00 each and must be pre-paid. The goal of the Working With Chocolate private party/class is to instruct you on how to make quality chocolates using the utensils and equipment already found in your kitchen. That way, when we leave, you will be able to reproduce the results and impress your friends and family anytime you wish. We will bring all of the chocolate (mostly dark), cream and other ingredients, tasting samples, and a few special chocolate-making items for demonstration purposes. To make this lesson a success, we do require the following:
- A clean kitchen within a 50 mile radius from Stanwood WA - one with a large work surface is best. (Kitchens outside of this radius will be incur a travel and accommodations fee based on distance)
- A microwave oven
- A stove top/range and a few small sauce pots
- 100% Silicon or plastic mixing/stirring sticks (wood is not acceptable for chocolate works)
- Several glass mixing bowls (a variety of sizes is best)
- A large sharp bread knife
- Kitchen shears
- An acrylic or plastic cutting board (the bigger and thicker, the better)
- A large roll of paper towels
Please note that due to the low working temperature of chocolate (68 to 70 F), it is best to select a home/kitchen space that stays cool or has air-conditioning. If you do not have any of the above items, let me know so that we can work out alternatives. Please do not feel the need to purchase anything special for the lesson. Cameras are welcome.
